Is your practice interested in offering veterinary social work but not ready to hire a full time social worker? Therapy Unleashed offers veterinary social work services per diem at hospitals throughout New England.
Veterinary social work is a relatively new field that addresses the human needs in veterinary medicine. While Therapy Unleashed focuses heavily on supporting veterinary professionals in their workplace, I also provide emotional support to your clients. It is becoming common for large, corporate hospitals to have an embedded veterinary social worker on their team. I created Therapy Unleashed to bring this valuable resource to smaller, local hospitals who may not need a full-time VSW.
Depending on your hospital's size and needs, mobile social work services will vary. Services may look like an in-person visit from Christina at your hospital weekly or monthly, ongoing individual confidential support for staff, debriefing sessions, group support, or mental wellness discussions. For clients, this may look like support during EOL/QOL discussions, being present with an owner during a euthanasia, support after a new diagnosis or for a pet with chronic needs, pet loss support, and/or a pet loss support group hosted by me at your hospital. Services may be booked per diem as full or half days in your hospital or as individual services either in person or virtually.
"Christina was an invaluable resource for my clients. She helped hold their hands while making difficult decisions regarding assessing quality of life, considering euthanasia and helping with grief after loss. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs a support to help with the stresses that come along managing illness and loss in our pets."
"Christina provided additional support to our trainees that greatly enhanced our program. She also helped us navigate mentorship challenges in a thoughtful supportive way. Our trainees always look forward to meeting with Christina and she really helped to set a tone of openness and safety for the program."
-Annie, Criticalist, & ER Training Program Director
"Christina was there for me during a time I needed her most. I was at my lowest point and surrounded by a toxic work environment. She made me feel validated that what I was experiencing was not okay. She provided options for me to try to work through my situation. When we realized that things weren’t getting better she supported my transition to another practice. She was one of the only people that truly thought about me and my well-being. She helped me gain the strength I needed to walk away."
"Christina and I worked together at a veterinary hospital. She was a valuable member of the hospital team. I would refer clients to Christina when they were having a difficult time dealing with the emotional stress of the loss of a pet, or struggling with having a beloved pet sick in the hospital. I also went to Christina personally after losing my mother to early onset Alzheimer’s disease. She is compassionate, a great listener, and amazing at helping people finding ways of coping with complex emotions."
"When I was pregnant with my first child, I experienced some significant antepartum anxiety. I worried about my job performance, and how my pregnancy was impacting my team. Christina was so supportive! After my daughter was born, I was diagnosed with PPD and PPA. I had to take additional time off to get to a better mental state before returning to work. When I finally came back, Christina was pivotal in helping me reintegrate into the workforce. We met weekly, where she allowed me to unload my heavy emotions. Her office was a safe space, where my feelings were always validated. Christina also helped me keep perspective, encouraged me to advocate for myself, and ultimately helped me grow in my career! I will forever be grateful to her for holding space for me during a very difficult time in my life. I don't think I would be where I am today if it weren't for her help."
